Drug industry whistleblower Peter Rost, MD gave the keynote presentation. Dr. Rost is a former Vice President for the drug company Pfizer first became well known in 2004 when he became the first drug company executive to speak out in favor of reimportation of drugs. His fight for lower priced drugs was covered by radio and television broadcasts, among them ?60 Minutes,? and many newspaper articles, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post and Los Angeles Times. He has testified before the U.S. Senate, as well as many state legislatures on drug pricing and importation issues. Check out his speech ?The New Robber Barons? on our website.

We also heard about the Pennsylvania Academic Detailing Program from the manager of that project, Michele Spetman. If you haven?t already, see the Wall St. Journal article on the program.

Attorney Sean Flynn presented on ?State Regulation of Excessive Drug Prices?. Mr. Flynn is an Associate at Spiegel & McDiarmid in Washington, D.C. and an expert in the law governing access to medicines. He previously was Senior Attorney for the Consumer Project on Technology where he focused on access to AIDs drugs and other medications in developing countries. He has served as special legal advisor to District of Columbia?s Office of the Attorney General for the case PhRMA v. D.C. and as counsel for Essential Action, the Technical Mission to Venezuela on Compulsory Licensing for Pharmaceuticals.

We again had a Legislator?s Roundtable on the latest action on prescription drug policy at the state level, including reports on PBMs, counter detailing, prescription confidentiality, disclosure of clinical trials data, trade policy and more. We also got an update on the latest on Medicare Part D and state action on Resolutions urging Congress to fix the program.
